ASTRAL.3 COURAGE (5/28) - Results

A sellout crowd was on hand at the Differ Ariake (the Underground) on Friday May 28th for the ASTRAL.3 COURAGE show! It was an exciting night of Japanese MMA action and the highest rated ASTRAL show to date.

In the main event the vacant ASTRAL Lightweight crown was up for grabs. Ryuu Matsumoto (9-0) became the first champion as he quickly defeated Rafael Diias (4-3) by way of an Anaconda choke submission just 0:34 seconds the match! Matsumoto has most definitely establish himself as Lightweight ace and is now of the top in his weight class in all of Japan.

The top contender Welterweight match saw Rumina Sato (6-6) string together his second win a row as he picked up the submission over Shin Ya (5-1). In doing so, Shin Ya dropped the first fight of his career after winning 5 straight coming into the match. Midway through the second round Sato landed a lightning fast surprise armbar on a stunned Shin Ya. With the win, Sato now positions himself as one of the top Welterweights in ASTRAL.

Mirko Vucinic (4-3) beat Kenshiro Yamamoto (9-9) in a hard fought Middleweight bout that went the distance. Vucinic dominated the standup game and frustrated Yamamoto all fight long with the judges scoring the match 3-0 for Vucinic.

Kida "Bakyura" Masaomi (1-0) had a great debut for ASTRAL as the late stand-in Welterweight defeated the tough Chiba Masaki (2-2). Masaki could not keep the fight standing and Masaomi quickly took the fight to the ground and worked in an Americana submission late in the 1st for the win.

South Korean Hyun Tsubaki (2-0) picked up his 2nd victory as he took a 3-0 decision over Takaku Fuke (2-3). Overall a good match, with both men working the ground attack but in the end it was Tsubaki who had the better ground game.

Light-Heavyweight Croation fighter Krunoslav Slabinac (3-0) surprised many with a 3-0 judges decision over Ryu Hoshi (1-1). Many had scored the fight a win for Hoshi who launched a flurry of knee attacks throughout the match but Slabinac controlled the ground game.

In a Lightweight matchup, it was Lee Wong (2-1) downing Raig Si Zhiro (4-8). Wong wasted little time in scoring the takedown and then locking in a quick armbar for the win. An impressive debut in ASTRAL for Wong.

Middleweight Matsushita Yashunori (1-2) bounced back from back-to-back losses picking up his first career win with a 2-0 judges decision over Zetsu Senju (0-1). After a close first round for Yashunori, he dominated the second round but the third went to Zetsu Senju. Two judges scored this close fight for Yashunori while the third called it a draw. A great bout in what was the Fight of the Night!

South Korean Featherweight Jongwoo Park (1-1) defeated Eduardo Yamamoto (1-5) in exciting fashion. The struggling Yamamoto looked in fine form as he dominated the first two round, controlling the ground assault. But just 0:40 into the third round Park landed an armbar out of nowhere, stunning Yamamoto. Park picked up submission of the night awards with this one!
